Portals’ new design studio inaugurated by Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary

On the 9th January, Portals was proud to welcome Julia Farrugia Portelli, Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms, Citizenship & Simplification of Administrative procedures, alongside Identity Malta officials and representatives from De La Rue to our Bathford Mill.

Our visitors were able to witness first-hand the production of the security paper for the new technologically advanced Maltese passport, which will be introduced gradually from the end of 2019.

During her visit, the Parliamentary Security officially opened Portals’ new design studio, praising Portals for sound ethical performance and a green agenda. The upcoming Maltese passport will feature a new watermark, designed by Portals’ designers, depicting the Malta Cross and a traditional Maltese boat (dgħajsa).

Ross Holliday, CEO at Portals commented; “We were honoured that during her visit the Parliamentary Secretary was able to inaugurate our new design studio and see first-hand the technology and skills behind the design of our products.”

Housing our expanding design team and equipped with the latest industry software and equipment, our upgraded design studio further enhances our design capabilities, allowing us to continue creating world-class cylinder mould security paper for both passports and banknotes.
